FAQ

Why SA

South Africa has an exceptional, world famous diversity of locations. It truly is “a world in one country”. The opportunities for shooting in the Western Cape are almost unlimited and the region offers widely diverse geographical and architectural locations. Within a radius of an hour’s drive from Cape Town we have locations similar to the Serengeti, the Swiss Alps, the Canadian Rockies, Hong Kong Harbor, South of France, Bahamas, Downtown LA and many more, which allows for optimized creativity and expenses.

One of the main attractions to South Africa is of course the weather which creates perfect shooting conditions all year round. Cape Town has up to 15 hours of sunshine a day from October to April (our summer) and Durban, Namibia and the Kruger National Park from May to September (our winter). As there is only one-hour time difference between South Africa and most European countries, you are able to start your production straight away without feeling jetlagged or tired.

South Africa is one of the most cost effective and affordable destinations in the world to shoot because of the favourable exchange rate to the major world currencies.

Visitors used to traveling to major cities in the world know that certain precautions should be taken. 2Productions will assist as well as advise you day and night to ensure that your stay in Cape Town is a safe one.

• What about the wind?

Predominant winds are West in winter, East in summer. With good co-ordination, factors such as weather and more specifically wind, will rarely end up affecting your production.

• Does everyone speak English?

English is the predominant language in the production industry in South Africa but we have crew who are fluent in German, French and Italian.

• Is there a big time difference?

There is maximum two-hour time difference to European time depending on summer or winter season.

• Do I need vaccinations before I come to SA?

No Vaccinations are required for travellers from USA and Europe who are coming to Cape Town. If you are looking to produce in the Kruger National Park or Mozambique (East Coast of Africa), it is necessary to take Malaria tablets.

• Do I need a visa?

Foreign passport holders working in South Africa for a foreign company need a business visa which is automatically issued at the South African port of entry. 2Productions will gladly assist with any necessary arrangements.
